Contact Information
New Clients Introduction
You'll need to have the following items ready during your initial interview:
- A key (or some way we may enter your home for visits i.e. garage door opener). We will provide a key-chain and a code (no address will be put on your key).
- A 2nd key that we can code with permanent ink (we can make this complementary spare).
- If your sitter has to return at a later time to retrieve your key, additional charges may apply.
- Emergency contact information for yourself, and 2 other contacts recommended.
- A list if items you plan to leave out during pet sitter visits (such as paper towel, medicines, etc).
- Trip information (if applicable), including Hotel and if you plan to have visitors while away.
- Your initial consultation should last between 30min ~ 60min
Guidelines
How to Prepare for your interview with your Pet Sitter:
- Set aside 30-60 min for your interview.
- Have your pets home & introduce them to the sitter during your interview.
- Tell the pet sitter about all health problems the pets may have—major or minor.
- Walk your sitter through the home & pet(s) daily routine. (show food bowls, leashes, litter boxes, extra supplies, etc)
- If a dog is not accustomed to walking on a leash, request that they practice a short walk with her/him before they leave.
- Let your sitter know of any house "quirks" (leaky sink, stuck window, etc)
- Show your sitter where your breaker panel is located.
- If your pet sitter will be providing services inside your home, provide a house key at the time of the interview (garage door openers/apt fob if applicable).
- If you have new keys made, try them out to make sure they work.
How to Prepare Your Home before services begin:
- Clean food and water dishes before leaving town. Provide extra food, litter and other supplies just in case you're not able to return when planned.
- Clean out the refrigerator to avoid smelly food spoilage and wash the dishes in the sink to prevent ants, flies or other pests.
- Adjust the thermostat to keep the house comfortable for the pet during your absence. In warm weather, a closed-up house can get dangerously hot in a short time.
- Leave a list of phone numbers in case the pet sitter needs to contact service or maintenance companies while you are away; i.e.plumber, electrician, cleaning service, yard maintenance, pool service, etc.
- Tell the pet sitter of any household areas that are off-limits to your pets or to the pet sitter. Secure access to those areas before leaving home.
- Make a list of pet's favorite hiding places. This will prevent the pet sitter from worrying if pets are not where expected—the sitter will know where to look.
- Make sure your dog's collar fits—Otherwise he may slip out of a too-large collar while being walked.
- If a dog growls or snaps at the pet sitter during a "get-acquainted visit," understand that the pet sitter may ask that the owner make other arrangements for the dog's care during any absence.
